Welcome back to our toddler program! We have a new, big, and beautiful classroom this year!
The school year begins with simply learning how to follow the daily routine at a pace that allows each child to take in the new experiences. There are new children to get to know, routines to figure out, cubbies to find, and new activities to discover.
The toddlers are starting to learn self-care (changing shoes, washing hands, dressing, toileting, and taking responsibility for one’s possessions and actions.)
We have been introducing new concepts in a concrete manner and encouraging the children to practice until a skill is mastered. The toddler classroom is a beautiful, safe place and even the youngest child soon learns and enjoys the routine. We are sensitive to the needs of each child and maintain consistency to make them feel more comfortable. Consistency also builds their confidence and independence.
Please remember to practice a quick and loving goodbye routine every day.
You can follow through at home by allowing extra time for your child to put on their own shoes or change wet clothes and by giving simple choices (ex: “Would you like a banana or an apple? ” Or,” Do you want to wear the green pants or the blue ones?”) This will help your child learn responsibility for themselves.
Grace and courtesy lessons are given and reviewed every day. We wish to have “please”, “may I have”, “thank you”, “you are welcome”, and “excuse me” as part of the toddler’s’ daily language.
Our toddlers enjoy time in school, are nice to one another, and give ready smiles and hugs anytime. We see more care in how they handle the materials, better skills in cleaning up, and better listening and observing of the other children.
