Dear FVMS community:
At our recent meeting, the board of directors received and then approved the last steps of the legal process of acquiring the parcel of land behind the playground that we have been working to acquire for the last few years. This land had been owned and maintained by the homeowner’s association of the neighborhood.
The land is not suitable for building, so there aren’t any possibilities for expanding the school itself. However, it has great potential for us as an outdoor environment for all of the students to use in a variety of ways. The first steps for the school will be to survey the area and to make plans to repair the fencing surrounding the property and to begin to clear the overgrowth. We are working with our Alderman, Mike Saville, to secure neighborhood improvement funding from the City of Aurora in order to cover the expenses of the project.
Thanks from the board to Denise for her persistence in seeing this initiative to its completion, to Mike Saville, and to our friend from the neighborhood Keith Smith, who uses our gym for evening karate classes and is the president of the homeowner’s association. Keith was instrumental in helping the process along that we hope will be a benefit to the school at very little cost and will benefit the neighborhood by allowing us to significantly improve what has been for a long time an unused resource to the west of our school.
The board also gained a new member to our group during the last month. Welcome to Joe Wisniewski! Joe brings to the board a wealth of professional experience in the construction field, which will be a great perspective to help our decision-making as we move forward on the outdoor environment project, and will be a great support to Denise as she manages the operations of the school.
